Ancient Trifles

Like I’ve been promising, here is the info for my other game.

Game title: Ancient Trifles

Game style: d20, Save the world!

Length: Completly unknown.  I still have a rough outline of the story in my head and I’ve yet to get down the side quests and leave some wiggle room for player insanity!  If it’s anything like my first DMing experience this could be at least a year long.  I wonder if there will be a baby red dragon in this one too.  😮

Rough Explanation: The Norse God Baldr is dead, which for the people worshiping the Norse deities signifies the coming of Ragnarok.  Their companions, the Greek Pantheon, is coming upon their own doom as the rumored prophecy of Zeus’s death by the hands of one his own sons is on the verge of being fulfilled.  Both pantheons have resigned themselves to their fate, readying for battle.  Oracles have received words an visions of the end, but a few of less favored seers have been saying something different.  Is this truely the end or can something be done?

The Whole Story: Loki has been punished due to the death of Baldr.  His wife, Sigyn, still catches the venom that is to drip on to him but since Loki doesn’t have to worry about fighting the pain he begins to commune with the oracles, priests, and clerics that have sworn themselves to him.  They’ve gone and searched for the son of Zeus that will bring down the Greek Gods, thus leaving the Norse pantheon alone to dwell on the coming of Ragnarok.  This son is found, though he lives a great distance to the east and is under the protection of Gods unknown to them.  These Gods will not release the boy and, under Loki’s persistance, the boy is stolen and thus instigates a war with these unknown Gods.  This doesn’t go unnoticed by either the Norse or Greek Gods; the Norse see it as turn of events for the coming Ragnarok while the Greek see it as the end of their time.

Crops are beginning to fail while the respective fertility deities put all of their attention in to the problems of the Gods.  At the Summer Festival in Pythiria the Oracles and seers speak of doom, saying that there is no hope and that the Gods have left them.  There is a feeling of panic and people begin to figure out ways to appease the deities, whether through sacraficial offerings or even offering themselves into their service.  During this unknown Oracles approach the group and begin to tell them that there is a way out.  Their God or Goddess has spoken to them and says that their end can be delayed.  The group is continously bombarded with Oracles telling them this until they agree to the journey, the deities going as far as to possessing Oracles that aren’t their own.

The group must head east until they find fields that still thrive.  By that point they have entered the realm of these unknown Gods.  They must seek an audience with them and see if some truce can be found.  In this land they will see dragons in the sky and, well, Chinese/Japanese/Indian inspired creatures and people. (In essence the group has traveled through the ‘dessert’ that blocks the Rokugani world of D&D with the rest)  The group receives an audience with the deities, and are actually able to speak to them face to face, something that hasn’t happened in their own land in many, many years.  A few of these deities have multiple arms, skin that are odd shades, and even the head of an animal(Ganesha anyone?).  They demand the return of the boy that was stolen from them or there will be a war upon them so great that the world will crumble.

After the agreement the Eastern Gods send them back to their land on the back of a dragon.  From this point they must find this unknown boy to save the world.

[phew, that was long.  Most of this I just came up with and, even though it’s spur of the moment, I love it!  I’ll have to do some more research but this has the making of a great game, in my opinion. 😉  Later, I’m off to class]
